Election of Vice Chairman

The next item on the agenda is the election of the Vice Chairman. Are there any nominations for the position?

I propose my colleague - I was going to say Senator but now we are colleagues in a different place - Deputy Jerry Buttimer. He has been a Member of the Oireachtas since being elected to the Seanad on the Labour Panel in 2007 and was recently elected to the Dáil for Cork South-Central. I propose his name for the position of Vice Chairman.

I would be honoured to second that.

Are there any other nominations for the position? As there are no other nominations, I deem Deputy Jerry Buttimer to be elected Vice Chairman of the committee.

I thank the members for electing me to the position. I wish the Chairman well in his role and look forward to working with the committee to make sure we do the job of the people properly and that we have a strong, vibrant committee that demonstrates the importance of the Houses of the Oireachtas.

I suggest that we continue in private session for the remainder of the meeting. Is that agreed? Agreed.

The joint committee went into private session at 1.10 p.m. and adjourned at 1.15 p.m. sine die.
