Election of Chairman

Clerk to the Committee

The first item on the agenda is the election of Chairman. I invite nominations for the position of Chairman of the joint sub-committee.

I propose Deputy Joe Carey.

As there are no other nominations, I declare Deputy Joe Carey Chairman of the joint sub-committee and I invite him to take the Chair.

Deputy Joe Carey took the Chair.

I thank the members for electing me Chairman of the joint sub-committee. I am honoured to have been appointed to the position. I look forward to working with members during the next number of months.

The election for the position of Vice Chairman will be deferred until our next meeting. I propose to adjourn to facilitate members who are constrained by time pressure.

This is a new committee. Where does it fit into the scheme of committees? Have the terms of reference been decided and when will they be circulated?

Do other members have views on that?

I concur with Deputy Browne. A number of changes are before the Commission. I am aware of proposed changes to the restaurants, the bar and the overall management of members' services.

I believe we should have our own terms of reference. I propose we invite the Superintendent to inform the committee of the proposed changes. I am aware of some proposed changes but the committee should be briefed as soon as possible on any such changes.

That is a reasonable proposal. Given this is a sub-committee of the Committee on Procedure and Privileges, our terms of reference should be reconstituted.

The committee went into private session at 1.15 p.m and adjourned at 1.20 p.m. sine die.
