JOINT COMMITTEE ON AGRICULTURE AND FOOD debate -
Tuesday, 12 Nov 2002

Vol. 1 No. 1

Election of Vice-Chairman.

The next position is the selection of vice-Chairman. I now ask for nominations for the position of vice-Chairman.

I wish to propose the name of Deputy Michael Moynihan for the position of vice-Chairman.

I second the motion.

Are there any other proposals? If there are no other proposals I deem Deputy Moynihan elected vice-Chairman of the committee.

Thank you very much.

I wish the Deputy well in the years ahead and I know he will take over from me when necessary.

On other matters, the time of meetings and the allocation of committee rooms for meetings of the joint committee will be decided on by a working group of chairpersons. This committee is comprised of chairpersons from all committees or, in his or her absence, the vice-chairpersons. The clerk to the committee will also attend the meetings on Wednesdays at 4.15 p.m. after the Order of Business and Question Time. That is how we worked in the last Dáil and I am sure it will suit everybody.

Is that a fixed time for all our meetings or is it just for the next meeting?

Hopefully, for all meetings. There will be occasions when, for some reason it might have to be changed. Apart from that we will try to meet on that day at that time. Hopefully, we will meet every second Wednesday.

The allocation of travel budget for the committee will be decided on by the working group of chairpersons. I hope that will happen soon.

The Agricultural Committee of the Hungarian Parliament has extended an invitation to the former committee to undertake a visit to Hungary to discuss matters of mutual interest. I am sure members would like that to be activated in the near future. We will leave it to the clerk to arrange that trip. Is that agreed? Agreed.

All correspondence and documents, including agendas, are sent to the respective member's home address and to Leinster House. Some documentation may be received too late for circulation in the normal way and in such instances documents will be left in the member's pigeonholes at Leinster House. Members should therefore check their pigeonhole prior to each meeting. Are there any other comments?

The Joint Committee adjourned at 5.30 p.m. until 4.25 p.m. on Wednesday, 27 November 2002.
