Wednesday, 7 Nov 2007

Election of Chairman.

Clerk to the Committee

As we have a quorum, amounting to five Members, including one Member from each House, we will proceed. In accordance with Standing Order 90 of Dáil Éireann, I now invite nominations for the position of Chairman. No seconder is required.

I nominate Deputy M.J. Nolan.

Clerk to the Committee

As there are no other nominations, I declare Deputy M.J. Nolan elected as Chairman of the Joint Committee on Arts, Sport, Tourism, Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs and call on him to take the Chair.

Deputy M.J. Nolan took the Chair.

I thank members for electing me as Chairman of this important committee. I look forward to working with its members over the lifetime of the committee and in doing so we should acknowledge the work carried out by the previous Joint Committee on Arts, Sport, Tourism, Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs. I hope to be as impartial as possible and I can only do so with the help and co-operation of the committee members. I look forward to working with members over what I hope will be the five-year life of this committee.
