Are there any other nominations for the position of chairperson? As there are no other nominations, I deem Deputy Noel O'Flynn to be elected and I ask him to take the Chair.

I thank the committee for electing me. It is an honour to be elected Chairman and I look forward to working with the members in a spirit of partnership and co-operation. I am confident we can bring our combined skills and enthusiasm to bear and make this a highly productive committee in an efficient and enlightened way. I welcome the members of the committee, particularly those newly elected Members of the Oireachtas.
The work being undertaken by this committee was covered by three different committees in the 28th Dáil. I pay tribute to the members of those committees who brought their own experience and knowledge of the workings of the areas that are now within the remit of this committee.
I will endeavour to be fair and impartial to all members of the committee. I believe strongly that a united approach, where all members contribute and feel their efforts are worthwhile, will give the best results.
The next item of the agenda is the election of the vice-Chairman and I call for nominations for that position.
