Business of Joint Committee

This committee was to start at 1.30 p.m. What happens is one must put the committee ar athló. It must be postponed for a period. Nobody turned up for a quarter of an hour at all. I realise everybody is working flat-out but it is embarrassing for the committee to a certain extent when witnesses arrive and they have to wait. We were very close to the meeting being called off today and the witnesses, having travelled up today, being sent home. It would have been a major embarrassment for all the members of the committee.

Tá ceathrar comhalta i láthair, mar is gá, agus Teachta amháin agus Seanadóir amháin san áireamh. Mar sin, is féidir linn an cruinniú a thosnú. Tá leithscéal faighte ón Teachta Éamon Ó Cuív nach feidir leis teacht isteach inniú. Iarraim ar chomhaltaí a gcuid gúthán póca a mhúchadh. I ask all members to turn off their phones.

Deputy Michael Collins has told me to ring him.

(Interruptions).

A Theachta Healy-Rae, I have to ask, as we are in public session and the great people of Ireland are watching us, that all members turn off their phones because at every meeting it creates problems with the broadcasting equipment.

Everybody has received all the documents that are necessary for this meeting already. It is on their databases currently. I trust everybody has those. Today we will discuss the Heritage Bill 2016. I will ask our guests to join us now to help with that. We will suspend for a couple of moments until our guests have taken their seats.

Sitting suspended at 2.13 p.m. and resumed at 2.14 p.m.
