JOINT COMMITTEE ON ENTERPRISE AND SMALL BUSINESS debate -
Wednesday, 26 Jul 2006

Business of Joint Committee.

I welcome all members of the joint committee. Apologies were received from Deputy Nolan and Senator O'Toole. Deputy Quinn will arrive later. Senators Mooney and Browne are deputising for Senators Hanafin and Coghlan, respectively.

The minutes of the meeting of 19 July have been circulated. Are they agreed? Agreed.

Last week we agreed to invite representatives of the trade unions and Greencore to discuss the non-payment of redundancy moneys to former employees of the company. I understand discussions between both parties are taking place at the national implementation body and that no useful purpose would be served by this committee discussing the matter at this time.

A letter was received from Deputy Michael Moynihan who wished to make representations on the issue of compensation for Greencore employees. However, it was too late to include the letter in the correspondence circulated to members. It states the Deputy understands a meeting of this committee will take place today and that he would be much obliged if we took into consideration a submission enclosed with his letter. He also wishes to be kept up to date on the discussions of the committee on the matter. The clerk will circulate a copy of the submission to members. Is it agreed to note the correspondence? Agreed.
