JOINT COMMITTEE ON ENVIRONMENT AND LOCAL GOVERNMENT debate -
Tuesday, 31 May 2005

Business of Joint Committee.

I wish to submit a proposal under any other business. We will then suspend for ten minutes to prepare a report following the discussion here. My proposal concerns the recycling of household waste and ties in with what we were discussing.

I propose that the joint committee examine the issue of the recycling of household waste in Ireland. This will involve placing a notice in national newspapers inviting submissions on the topic. I also propose that the clerk write to local authorities in each county seeking information on the current position and on the future plans they have in this area. That information and the selected submissions will form the basis of a series of hearings by the committee with a view to eventually publishing a report on the issue.

I second the proposal.

Is that agreed? Agreed.

Sitting suspended at 5.57 p.m. and resumed at 6.20 p.m.

The report has been circulated. Is it agreed? Agreed. The next meeting of the joint committee will be on 8 June. There will be a meeting of the select committee tomorrow.

The joint committee adjourned at 6.20 p.m. until 2.30 p.m. on Wednesday, 8 June 2005.
