JOINT COMMITTEE ON EUROPEAN AFFAIRS debate -
Wednesday, 8 Dec 2004

Business of Joint Committee.

The minutes of the meeting of 30 November 2004 have been circulated. Are the minutes agreed? Agreed.

Correspondence has been received from Mr. Dermot Gallagher, Secretary General of the Department of Foreign Affairs, in relation to EU funding for the PEACE programmes in the post-2006 period. It is proposed to note this correspondence and come back to it when the substantive reply has been received from the Department of Finance.

A letter has been received from the ambassador and parliament of the Ukraine on proposed amendments to COSAC rules on procedure. I propose to note this correspondence and propose that it be dealt with by the next Presidency hosting the COSAC conference.

I propose that the joint committee agree to scrutinise the matters referred to it by the sub-committee on European scrutiny. The secretariat will make the necessary arrangements. Is that agreed? Agreed.

I forgot to mention the proposals from the MEPs who were not here.

I assume we are meeting on Wednesday, irrespective of whether the Minister is available. Is that correct?

The next meeting of the committee will be next Wednesday at 2 p.m. when we will meet representatives of the European Anti-Poverty Network to discuss the social dimension of the Lisbon strategy. It has been on the agenda for some time.

And the adoption of the Turkish report.

Yes, the same day.

The joint committee adjourned at 4.35 p.m. until 2 p.m. on Wednesday, 15 December 2004.
