JOINT COMMITTEE ON FINANCE AND THE PUBLIC SERVICE debate -
Wednesday, 30 Apr 2003

Vol. 1 No. 7

Business of Joint Committee.

On 16 April the sub-committee on EU scrutiny met to consider a further range of proposals, one of which was referred to this committee for scrutiny. Document EU COM 2003/78 is a proposal for a Council regulation amending Regulation EEC No. 218/92 on administrative co-operation in the field of indirect taxation, which is value-added tax concerning additional measures regarding supplies of travel services. Does the committee agree that this proposal merits further scrutiny? If so, I will propose a date for the committee to meet with an official from the Department of Finance to discuss this issue. Is that agreed? We will set a date for that.

Members should also note that where the sub-committee on EU scrutiny does not recommend scrutinising a particular legislative proposal, this committee might still decide to do so. In our case there are a number of proposals on which the sub-committee decided that no further scrutiny was necessary and these are contained in the documentation circulated with information on this meeting. If the committee agrees with the recommendation that no further scrutiny is necessary we can get back to the sub-committee on this today. Is it agreed that we will not carry out any further scrutiny? Agreed.

The joint committee went into private session at 4.12 p.m. and adjourned at 4.25 p.m. until2 p.m. on Wednesday, 14 May 2003.
