JOINT COMMITTEE ON FINANCE AND THE PUBLIC SERVICE debate -
Wednesday, 21 Sep 2005

Business of Joint Committee.

Apologies have been received from Deputies Paul McGrath, Nolan, Ned O'Keeffe and Ó Caoláin as well as Senator O'Toole. The first item on the agenda is the draft minutes of the meeting of 17 September which have been circulated. Are they agreed? Agreed. The only item arising is that we agreed to come back to the correspondence regarding a certain taxpayer who was dissatisfied with the treatment of his case arising from dealings with the Revenue Commissioners and the Information Commissioner but as Deputies Ó Caoláin and McGuinness who were part of the sub-group dealing with the case are not here, we will hold over that item until the next meeting.

The next item on the agenda is correspondence for today's meeting. A very short schedule of correspondence has been circulated. The first item is the pre-budget 2006 submission by the National Women's Council of Ireland. We will note the submission.

The next item is an invitation and programme for the OECD high level parliamentary seminar in Paris, to which we have agreed to send two representatives of the committee. This is just further correspondence, which we will note.

The final item is the annual report 2004 of the Personal Injuries Assessment Board. I suggest we note the report, a copy of which is available from the committee secretariat or on the website of the Personal Injuries Assessment Board.

There being no further items of correspondence we will move on to the main item of business, the review of tax reliefs and exemptions submissions.

Sitting suspended at 10.24 a.m. and resumed at 10.25 a.m.
