JOINT COMMITTEE ON FOREIGN AFFAIRS debate -
Thursday, 28 Oct 2004

Business of Joint Committee.

Apologies have been received from Deputies Davern and Quinn. The minutes of the meeting held on 12 October were circulated with the agenda of this meeting. Are they agreed? Agreed. Arising from the last meeting, I wrote to the Taoiseach advising him of the committee's views on the expansion of the ODA programme to meet the UN target of 0.7% of GNP and inviting him to address the committee on this important subject. A copy of the Taoiseach's reply has been circulated to members. I propose to deal with this under correspondence. Are there any other matter arising?

The committee noted at that meeting a report from the Sub-committee on Development Co-operation which reiterated its request for this committee to approve a trip to Gaza. This matter was presented in the minutes of the sub-committee.

We will deal with this issue when we discuss visits in the latter part of the meeting. I welcome two new committee members, Deputies Allen and Durkan, and thank the outgoing members, Deputies Gay Mitchell and Noonan, for their work over the last two years. We will proceed to the presentation by Christian Aid Ireland on its report regarding Israeli land policies, entitled Facts on the Ground: The end of the two state solution?

Some members must attend the Order of Business.

I understand. Members can leave for the Order of Business and then return to the committee.
