JOINT COMMITTEE ON HEALTH AND CHILDREN debate -
Thursday, 17 Feb 2005

Business of Joint Committee.

The minutes of the meeting of 3 February have been circulated to members. Are they agreed?

I asked the clerk to let the Minister for Health and Children know — Deputy Devins may wish to do likewise — I never said I was a member of the Medical Defence Union. Members will recall there was a bit of a fracas at the end of the meeting.

The Senator never said that.

I did not. We are supposed to declare an interest.

I am not a member of the MDU.

You wrote and stated that. Members know but perhaps she does not know.

That letter has been sent to the Minister.

Thank you.

Once one declares it on one's declaration of interest, one is covered.

I thought one must state it every time.

Thank you for your advice, Deputy Neville. I propose we go into private session to discuss correspondence and related matters before hearing briefings from officials of the Departments of Health and Children and Enterprise, Trade and Employment, and a presentation by the National Disability Authority.

The joint committee went into private session at 9.35 a.m. and resumed in public session at 9.59 a.m.
