Joint Committee on Health and Children debate -
Thursday, 25 Jun 2015

Business of Committee

Apologies have been received from Deputies Seamus Healy, Sandra McLellan, Mary Mitchell O'Connor, Dan Neville, Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin and Robert Troy, and from Senator Imelda Henry.

I will also have to leave at some stage, apologies.

On 2 July the Select Committee on Children will deal with the Children (Amendment) Bill 2015.

I thank the members of the committee for visiting Oberstown on Tuesday morning and wish to put on record my appreciation of the staff in Oberstown for the work they do and the hospitality they gave us. It is important that the committee reviews that visit and I propose we do so at our next meeting. Is that agreed? Agreed.

In our private session earlier we agreed, arising from our meeting yesterday with Nursing Homes Ireland and other hospitals, to write to the Minister for Health and the NMBI, with a view to bringing them in to the committee as a matter of urgency to discuss the issue of nursing registration, which is a protracted process and is having an impact on the recruitment of nurses.
