Messages to Dáil and Seanad

In accordance with Standing Order 87, the following message will be sent to the Dáil:

The Joint Committee on Justice, Defence and Equality has completed its consideration of the following motion:

That Dáil Éireann:

bearing in mind the specific matters considered by Government to be of significant public concern arising from the fatal shooting of Ronan MacLochlainn by members of the Garda Síochána during the course of an attempted armed robbery of a Securicor van in County Wicklow on 1 May 1998;

noting that it is the opinion of the Government that a commission of investigation represents the best method of addressing the issues involved; and

further noting that a draft of the proposed Commission of Investigation (Ronan MacLochlainn) Order 2014 and a statement of the reasons for establishing the commission have been laid before Dáil Éireann resolves to approve the draft.”

copies of which were laid before Dáil Éireann on 15 July 2014.

In accordance with Standing Order 72 the following message will be sent to the Seanad:

That Seanad Éireann:
