Joint Committee on the Secondary Legislation of the European Communities debate -
Tuesday, 7 Feb 1978

Chairman’s Draft Reports.

We come now to the draft reports. We have dealt with three matters during the past month. We have draft reports on Mergers and the Control of Concentrations between Undertakings, on Dental Surgeons, on Life Assurance and Non-Life Insurance. We have one amendment on the last mentioned, tabled by Senator FitzGerald and it is being circulated.

I do not know in which way the Members would like to deal with the reports. Unfortunately, it was not possible to circulate the reports in all cases so as to give sufficient time to Members to have them considered in detail before this meeting. If we go through them perhaps we could get agreement on accepting them. If some Member wishes to raise a matter or even to propose an amendment I think we could accept that procedure. I should like to see more time given but it is not always possible to do that and to cover the enormous amount of work that is piled on this Committee, and particularly at the start of its operations.
