Vol. 2 No. 6

ELECTION OF SENATOR.

AN CATHAOIRLEACH

The first business on the Orders of the Day is the election of a Senator to fill the vacancy caused by the death of the late Senator MacPartlin. There has been only one candidate proposed, Mr. Thomas Foran. He has been duly nominated. He has also signed a consent to act, if elected, and his qualification is that he is President of the Irish Transport and General Workers Union. Under our Standing Orders, it will now be necessary to submit his name to a ballot. The voting papers will be sent round, and the question will be whether Senators vote for or against Mr. Foran. They simply put down "Yes," or "No."

The voting papers having been collected and counted, an Cathaoirleach declared Mr. Thomas Foran duly elected a member of the Seanad.
