ACOUSTICS OF CHAMBER.

AN CATHAOIRLEACH

I have received a letter from the Chairman of the Board of Works with reference to a letter I wrote to him on the matter of the acoustic properties of this Chamber In this letter he writes as follows:—"Since my letter to you of the 22nd ultimo further experiments have been carried out about this matter, and it seems clear that the trouble arises from the reverberations from the hard, smooth surfaces of the walls and a part of the floor, and possibly also the ceiling. We have had curtains hung on the walls and the bare spaces of the floor carpeted with temporary coverings, and the Seanad will, no doubt, be able to judge at the meeting to-day whether these measures are sufficient to overcome the difficulty. If not, we can readily extend them, and I have no doubt the room can be made satisfactory.

"Inquiries have been made with regard to the date at which the furniture, carpets, and other fittings of the Chamber will be finally completed. As you are aware, special furniture is being made which will take a considerable time, and special carpets are being woven, but I think I can promise that all will be ready by the end of September.—Yours sincerely, P. Hanson."
