Vol. 6 No. 9

SUSPENSION OF STANDING ORDERS.

I move the suspension of Standing Orders, so that this Bill may be put through all its remaining stages this afternoon.

CATHAOIRLEACH

On what ground?

On the grounds of urgency. We want to get the Bill through as quickly as possible.

The point is that the Act which this is intended to replace expires in February. I gave an undertaking to the medical men who came to see me in connection with this matter that the Government would undertake to provide that a hiatus would not occur. Unless this Bill became law before the other Act expired there would be no institution to regulate the discipline or control of the medical men throughout the country. I do not think it is necessary, but they themselves desire that the control should be continued.

Question put and agreed to.
The Bill was received for final consideration and passed.
