Vol. 6 No. 14

ORDER OF BUSINESS.

CATHAOIRLEACH

We did not conclude the motion standing in the name of Senator MacKean, nor did we conclude the other motion dealing with the question of road transport. I think it is better to dispose of Senator MacKean's motion first.

I would prefer that you continue the discussion on Senator Toal's motion.

CATHAOIRLEACH

Why?

Because it is a continuation of the work that was left over last night.

CATHAOIRLEACH

That cuts both ways. We broke off the discussion on your motion for the purpose of taking up the other. It is a matter of indifference to me, but I thought it would be better to clear your motion out of the way.

Some Senators who would be likely to speak on my motion are not here to-day. I wish to explain that they went away with the idea that this motion was to come on next Tuesday. That was the idea they had, and I think that was conveyed more or less in some remarks that were made. I do not know if there were not some remarks made from the Chair conveying this idea.

CATHAOIRLEACH

Certainly not by me, because I thought we would conclude both motions yesterday.

I thought so too. But I had an idea that as it was left over on yesterday it would stand until Tuesday next and that you would continue the discussion on Mr. Toal's motion.

CATHAOIRLEACH

If you tell me that some Senators who are anxious to take part in the debate on your motion have not arrived yet, I will not take it up now.

I am satisfied that some Senators who wish to speak on it are not here now.
