Vol. 8 No. 2

ORDER OF BUSINESS.

CATHAOIRLEACH

Perhaps I ought to intervene to say that the other Bill has passed the Dáil. We ought to make up our minds what we ought to do. If we intend to meet to-morrow to give facilities to the Minister for Local Government, then perhaps it might be better to postpone the Committee and other stages of this Bill until to-morrow. In comparison with the Minister for Local Government's Bill this is a complicated Bill.

Assuming that we are to put the Wireless Bill through, the proper thing to do would be to take the Committee Stage to-day and the remaining stages to-morrow.

I was opposed to giving any further facilities to this Bill to-day on principle. I have listened to the speech of the Minister, and I thought it was a very pathetic one. He wants more money to amuse the people. If the House wants to go on with this Bill I shall not object. As far as the Bill of the Minister for Local Government is concerned, perhaps we should read it the first time to-night.

CATHAOIRLEACH

The question of the First Reading does not occur. We never read Bills a first time; we read them a second time. Having made this concession to the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs, if we refuse a much smaller concession to the Minister for Local Government we would embarrass ourselves. That Bill is more formal than the one we are considering. I suggest that we might concede to the Minister for Local Government the same courtesy we have given to his colleague.

There is an important meeting of the Poor Law Commission to-morrow at 3.30, so that some Senators could not be here.

CATHAOIRLEACH

Would it meet the convenience of the House if we met at 11 o'clock?

I suggest that the House should proceed with the Wireless Telegraphy Bill this evening and leave consideration of the other Bill over till to-morrow. That arrangement would put both Ministers on a par.
