Vol. 10 No. 29

PRIVATE BUSINESS. - THE SEANAD ELECTORAL BILL.

CATHAOIRLEACH

I think I ought to mention that during the Recess, on my suggestion, certain Senators from the country undertook to consider in an informal way the provisions of the Seanad Electoral Bill. The Committee held several meetings and the Leas-Chathaoirleach (Senator Bennett) kindly undertook to look after the matter. The Minister for Local Government attended the meetings, with the result that he has practically adopted, and proposes to incorporate in the Bill in the other House, all the suggestions made by the Committee, with one exception; that is, with regard to the question of postal voting. That will come up and will have to be considered and settled in this House. I only wish to express my grateful acknowledgment to this Committee for the trouble they have taken and for the courtesy with which they discharge their duties.
