Vol. 15 No. 10

Suspension of Standing Orders.

I move:

"That, notwithstanding anything to the contrary contained in Standing Orders 79 (1) and 85, the Committee Stage and Report Stage of the Central Fund Bill, 1932, be taken to-day."

In view of the Easter Recess and of the Holy Week holidays it was felt that it would be advisable to have this Bill dealt with fully to-day. Of course, it is entirely a matter for the House to decide.

There is something very familiar about this motion. The Senator who has just sat down was one of those who most rabidly opposed anything of this nature in the not distant past. In fact, he went so far that when I moved a similar motion the last time he said that I was a travesty as a representative for doing such a thing. I quite agree that this thing is necessary, and, therefore, I am not going to oppose it.

I should like to protest against being accused of having ever called Senator Wilson "a travesty." There is a term I would use for him, but I will not tell him what it is now. I should like to point out that this is part of our inheritance, and that we are not in any way responsible for the Bill. Furthermore, if the House wants to meet to-morrow we shall be glad to meet. We have no objection. It is a question of the Holy Week holidays.

Question put and agreed to.
