Vol. 15 No. 27

Housing (Financial and Miscellaneous Provisions) Bill, 1932—Committee Stage.

I do not think it is quite right to take a very important Bill like this at this late hour, more especially as the Second Reading Stage was also taken at a very late hour and rather hurriedly. The amendments could not possibly get the consideration they deserve to-night. I would suggest that the consideration of the Bill be adjourned until to-morrow.

Whatever may be said about the merits of the Bill being taken to-night or not, I do want to protest against the statement that the Bill was hurried on the Second Reading Stage. There was no undue anxiety to hurry this Bill. It was a question of the House being here and the Bill being taken. There was no attempt made to hurry it.

I accept that but at the same time the Bill was taken at a rather late hour.

Cathaoirleach

Could we not carry on for a little time?

I suggest that we adjourn until to-morrow. Most of the members are tired and the financial proposals of the Bill alone go into millions.

Cathaoirleach

We have a great deal of work for to-morrow. Could we not do portion of it now?

Could you not make an agreement to sit late on to-morrow night? There is no kind of fixed hours and it is very unsatisfactory. If we adjourn until to-morrow could we not agree to sit late on to-morrow night?

Why not sit early to-morrow?

Why not sit late to-night?

Cathaoirleach

That arrangement has not been made.

Why should we not adjourn for an hour now and then come back?

We have not made any arrangements for that.

Cathaoirleach

The proposal now is that we adjourn the Housing (Financial and Miscellaneous Provisions) Bill until to-morrow and that on to-morrow we adjourn at 7.30 until 8.30 and continue in session later.

Agreed.

The House adjourned at 7.20 p.m. until 3 o'clock on Thursday, 28th July.
