Seanad Éireann debate -
Wednesday, 14 Jun 1933

Vol. 16 No. 26

National Health Insurance Bill, 1933. - Railways Bill, 1933—Message from Dáil.

Cathaoirleach

The following Message has been received from the Dáil:—

Dáil Eireann has agreed to amendments 1 to 8 inclusive, and 10 to 19 inclusive, made by Seanad Eireann to the Railways Bill, 1933; it has disagreed to amendment 9; to which the agreement of Seanad Eireann is desired.

I move that we do not insist upon amendment 9. This amendment was due to a clerical error.

I thought that somebody would explain what exactly had occurred. I looked through the Bill myself and I could not discover. When the Bill left the House, we understood that the Minister had accepted all the amendments.

Cathaoirleach

This amendment is immaterial.

I second Senator Johnson's motion.

In doing this, we are relying entirely on Senator Johnson's statement because we have heard no other explanation.

Possibly the Vice-President would be able to explain.

Vice-President

Unfortunately, the Minister for Industry and Commerce is unable to be present.

Cathaoirleach

We all regret that very much.

Vice-President

The Minister for Industry and Commerce believed that the Seanad intended that this amendment should not be made and that it was left in by error. I heard him say that and I believe that, if he were here, he would be able to explain the matter quite satisfactorily.

Question put and agreed to.
