Vol. 17 No. 4

Order of Business.

Cathaoirleach

We shall have the Committee Stage of the Finance Bill as the first business on next Wednesday. That will give Senators time to submit recommendations to the Bill. The 21 days which we are allowed will be upon the following Tuesday. The business for next Tuesday will be as follows: Cement No. 2 Bill, Fifth Stage; Public Hospitals Bill, Fifth Stage; Musk Rats Bill, Committee Stage and Public Services (Temporary Economies) Bill, Committee Stage. Then we shall have in addition the following Bills on the Order Paper for Tuesday, all of which will be certified Money Bills—the Industrial Credit Bill, the Appropriation Bill, the Dáil Eireann Loans and Funds (Amendment) Bill. There is one other matter. In reply to a question in the Dáil yesterday afternoon the President announced that the Dáil would adjourn for the Summer Recess on Friday, 11th August. I summoned a meeting of representatives of all groups in the Seanad to meet me in my room after the adjournment last night to discuss the position of our House in the matter. It was agreed that I should recommend to the House that we should continue in session until this day fortnight, 28th July, if it should prove to be necessary to do so, in order to deal with any Bills from the Dáil which can be duly considered and disposed of by then. It was further agreed that we should then adjourn and come back on Wednesday, 16th August, in order to deal with the further Bills which will have been received up to the time of the adjournment of the Dáil on the previous Friday. That arrangement will give us a fortnight's recess after this day fortnight. Does that recommendation meet the approval of the various groups in the House?

I think we should want to know something more about the business that will be available during that time.

Cathaoirleach

I cannot give the Senator any further information than I have given.

Order of Business, as suggested, agreed to.

The Seanad adjourned at 12.30 p.m. until Tuesday, 18th July, 1933, at 3 p.m.
