Vol. 17 No. 8

Clare Castle Pier Bill, 1933—Second Stage.

Question proposed: "That the Bill be now read a Second Time."

The Trustees of the Clare Castle Pier became an illegal organisation because they allowed their membership to fall below that which constituted a quorum and they then proceeded to fill up the membership by co-option. The fact that the number of members present when the co-options were made were less than the quorum invalidated the co-options. It has been found impossible to make the body a legal organisation except by the introduction of a Bill. This Bill is for the purpose of setting up the Trustees as a legal organisation. The names of the Trustees are set out in the Schedule. Most of them are existing Trustees and the others are persons whom we persuaded to act in that capacity after considerable difficulty.

I suppose there is no fear that they will ever again become an illegal organisation?

We are trying to provide against that, but they will need careful watching, being in Clare.

Question put and agreed to.
Committee Stage ordered for Wednesday, 26th July.
