Report of the Committee on Procedure and Privileges. - Amendment of Standing Orders.

I beg to move:

(a) To delete Standing Order 2 and to substitute therefor a new Standing Order as follows:—

2.—(1) There shall be a Roll of Members of Seanad Eireann, which shall be signed by every Senator, before taking his seat, in the presence of the Clerk.

(2) When the Return showing the result of a triennial election to the Seanad has been duly received by the Clerk from the Seanad Returning Officer, the Clerk shall notify all the newly-elected Senators that their attendance is required at a place appointed and on a day (or days) named by him, for the purpose of complying with the provisions of paragraph (1) of this Standing Order.

(b) To delete paragraph (3) of Standing Order 108 and to substitute therefor a new paragraph as follows:—

(3) The Clerk shall notify the newly-elected Senator that his attendance is required at a place appointed and on a day named by him, for the purpose of complying with the provisions of paragraph (1) of Standing Order No. 2.

I beg to move:

To delete paragraph 2 of the Standing Order and to substitute therefor the following paragraph:—

The following amendment only may be proposed to the question:—"To delete all after the word ‘That' and to substitute therefor the words "the Fifth Stage of the Bill be taken on this day three months" or some other date; but in the case of a Bill which has been received from the Dáil the period named shall be not longer than seventeen months from the date on which the Bill was first received by the Seanad.
