Vol. 18 No. 25

Business of the Seanad.

Cathaoirleach

Senator The McGillycuddy has given me notice in writing that he wishes to bring forward for discussion on the motion for the adjournment, under Standing Order 24, the policy of the Government in connection with the provisions of the Agricultural Produce Cereals Act, 1933. When the business on the Order Paper has been disposed of, I shall call on Senator The McGillycuddy, and the House will stand formally adjourned without question put not more than half an hour after the commencement of the discussion.

The Committee on Procedure and Privileges met informally this morning for the purpose of advising me in regard to certain amendments tabled by Senator Blythe for the Committee Stage of the Defence Forces (Temporary Provisions) (No. 2) Bill, 1934, which is due to be taken in the Seanad next Wednesday. The advice given to me by the Committee was unanimous, and in pursuance thereof I formally rule these amendments out of order on the ground that any amendment to a Bill which merely continues the operation of a single Expiring Act, other than an amendment altering the length of time of the continuance, is outside the scope of the Bill as read a second time.
