Seanad Éireann debate -
Wednesday, 14 Jan 1942

Vol. 26 No. 4

Business of Seanad.

Before taking up the business on the Order Paper to-day, I should mention that the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Local Government and Public Health is unwell and will be unable to attend to-day. As there is every probability that the House will be sitting to-morrow, I think it would be better if the Committee Stage of the Water Supplies Bill were deferred until then and, if the Parliamentary Secretary is still unable to attend on that day, the Committee Stage can be postponed to the next meeting of the House.

Agreed.

In regard to item No. 6—the motion in the name of Senator Michael Hayes—it has been represented to me, on the understanding also that the House will be meeting to-morrow, that the House should agree now not to take that motion until to-morrow. A definite understanding to that end now will facilitate arrangements. May I take it there is agreement to that suggestion?

Agreed.

In connection with Item No. 4, that is, the motion for the annulment of Emergency Powers (No. 98) Order, the House will recall that when the motion was under debate on the last day on which the House sat the debate was adjourned for the purpose of seeing an amending order before the debate was resumed. I have been given to understand that the Minister for Finance, who is now present, is desirous of making a statement before the debate is resumed, and that it will suit his convenience if the House would be agreeable to taking that statement as first business to-day.

Subsequent proceedings on the motion can be reviewed when the House has heard the Minister's statement. I presume there is no objection to that course.

Agreed.
