Vol. 30 No. 11

Business of Seanad.

I have received notice from Senator Counihan that on the motion for the adjournment of the Seanad to-night, he proposes to direct the attention of the Minister for Agriculture to the over-crowded condition of the stores of millers and corn merchants in the City of Dublin, and to notices issued directly to farmers by millers and merchants not to bring any more grain for the present to the stores, and requesting the Minister to make a statement on the matter.

I am accepting that notice and the matter will be taken at 8.30 p.m. or earlier if business concludes.

Item No. 1 on the Order Paper is not being taken to-day.

When is it proposed to take it? I understand the Taoiseach is not able to take it to-day or perhaps to-morrow. The matter is not urgent but, as it concerns the whole House, and is of some Constitutional importance, I suggest that it might be adjourned until the Taoiseach could attend. I regret the reason why he is not able to attend to-day. Perhaps it could be arranged that we could postpone it.

I have been in touch with the Taoiseach's Department. The Taoiseach was unable to attend here to-day and because of that an arrangement was made by which the Minister for Local Government will take the business instead. The Minister for Local Government has arranged to attend to-morrow.

Perhaps the conversations could continue and we could arrange this matter later in the light of the outcome.

Very good.
