Vol. 34 No. 23

Order of Business.

In connection with the Order Paper to-day, I should say that it will not be possible to take Senator Counihan's motion to-day, as the Minister for Agriculture is engaged elsewhere and he will not be able to attend.

I am afraid, also, that it may not be possible to take the second motion, which stands in the name of Senator Joseph Johnston. In this case perhaps the House would give me some indication of its wishes, so that I may acquaint the Minister.

I suggest that we take the two motions in March.

Is it March of this year?

As the Minister will not be able to be here, there is not much point in objecting. I am sorry that he will not be able to be here, because this motion is a very important one. Large numbers of people throughout the country are very anxious to have a discussion, with a view to finding out what can be done with regard to the scheme which the Minister has put up. I suppose I cannot discuss the matter any further now and, therefore, with the permission of the House, I will postpone the motion until March next, as Senator Quirke has suggested.

Agreed: That both motions be taken next March.
