Vol. 35 No. 2

Appointment of Committee of Selection.

I move:—

That notwithstanding anything to the contrary contained in Standing Order No. 58 of the Standing Orders relative to Public Business, the Committee of Selection appointed under that Standing Order do consist of ten Senators of whom four shall constitute a quorum, and that the following Senators be appointed to serve on the said committee:—

Andrew S. Clarkin, John J. Counihan, James Crosbie, Luke J. Duffy, William R. Fearon, Patrick Fitzsimons, Michael Hearne, Patrick McCartan, John J. Meighan and Séamus O'Farrell.

Perhaps on this motion I might be allowed to say that all the motions standing in my name to-day are for the purpose of setting up the usual commitees which fall to be nominated at the opening of every new Parliament. The Committee of Selection, which is as representative as the office could make it of the different groups in the Seanad, will select the members to be placed upon the committees, select them from the point of view of their fitness and from the point of view, sometimes, of giving representation to the different groups.

I second the motion.

Motion agreed to.
