Vol. 35 No. 8

Control of Imports Orders—Motions.

I move:—

That Seanad Eireann hereby approves of the Control of Imports (Quota No. 8) (Amendment) Order, 1938 (Amendment) Order, 1948.

This motion deals with the importation of motor cars. Assembled motor cars could not be imported freely, but under the 1938 Agreement it was agreed that British motor cars could be imported if they were of a value of £750. During the war, no cars were imported, but at the end of the war when cars came on again, it was agreed to raise the figure to £1,300. The Order was made on the 17th February to that effect and this motion is to approve of the Order.

Motion agreed to.

I move:—

That Seanad Eireann hereby approves of Control of Imports (Quota No. 13) (Amendment) Order, 1948.

This deals with the importation of a certain kind of cloth without the production of quota licences. Cloths valued for not more than 3/- per sq. yard were imported. Now clothing manufacturers and woollen manufacturers suggest that the figure should be made 4/- per sq. yard. The Order was made with that effect and this motion is for the purpose of approving of it.

Motion agreed to.
