Tá rud amháin ar mhaith liom tagairt a dhéanamh dó ar an mBille seo. Tá ainm an chomhluchta curtha síos sa mBille i mBéarla. Níl aon locht agam ar sin, mar is é brí an Bhille go rachaidh an tAire i mbun comhluchta atá ar bun cheana féin. Gheobhaidh sé seilbh ar fhormhór rachmais an chomhluchta seo, agus, dá réir sin, beidh ceannas aige ar imeachta an comhluchta. Ba mhaith liom iarraidh ar an Aire leanúint don nós a bhí ann le tamall maith nuair a bheadh comhlucht dá bhunú faoi údarás an Stáit nó nuair a bheadh bord dá bhunú, faoi údarás an Stáit, go gcuirfí ainm Gaeilge nó teideal Gaeilge ar an gcomhlucht nó ar an mbord sin. Tá sé tábhachtach go speisialta sna cásanna seo de bhrí go mbaineann an comhlucht seo leis an nGaeltacht agus le tionscail a bhaineann go speisialta leis an nGaeltacht agus ba mhaith liom anois iarraidh ar an Aire nuair a thiocfas an t-am ceart, nuair gheofas sé smacht ar an gcomhlucht ar ball, go bhféachfadh sé chuige go leanfaí ar an nós a bhí ann, nós inmholta, agus go gcuirfeadh sé ainm Gaeilge, agus ainm Gaeilge amháin, ar an gcomhlucht nó ar an mbord.
Alginate Industries (Ireland) Limited (Acquisition of Shares) Bill, 1949—Committee and Final Stages.
This is a point that did not occur to me until the Senator raised it. There might be legal difficulties involved. The Senator, I take it, wants the name of the company changed and wants it to be given an Irish name. I should be quite willing to do that, but the best I can do at the moment is to give the Senator an assurance that I will have the matter examined, because there may be legal difficulties. If it is at all possible, I will try to meet the Senator's wishes.
The section provides that the shares of the company acquired by the Minister shall be allotted or transferred either, as the Minister directs, to the Minister or to a person nominated by him and different persons may be nominated in respect of different shares. Could the Minister tell us the number of directors of the original company and the number the Minister proposes to nominate, and whether the persons nominated to represent the Minister will be civil servants or persons with business knowledge of the particular industry to the board of which they are being appointed?
The number of directors of the old company was five and the number will be the same when the company is reformed. I shall be nominating three, but who they will be has not been determined yet. I presume that they will at least be men with experience of this seaweed industry and men who will have its interests at heart. The Senator mentioned shares, and, in order that these nominees will be directors of the company, it will be necessary to allot one share to each. That is the general purpose of the section.
