Vol. 41 No. 11

Local Government (Dublin) (Amendment) Bill, 1953.—First Stage.

Leave granted to introduce a Bill entitled an Act to make provision in respect of the area of jurisdiction of the coroner and sheriff of the County of Dublin in consequence of the extension of the boundary of the County Borough of Dublin by the City of Dublin (Extension of Boundary) Provisional Order, 1953, as confirmed by the Oireachtas.—(Senator Quirke.)

This is a very unusual Bill and I would request the Seanad to take all stages of the Bill to-day. It is a very simple Bill and, owing to technical reasons, it was not possible to have it ready in time. It is proposed to preserve the jurisdiction of the coroner and sheriff for County Dublin within the same area over which they at present have jurisdiction. That is really all that it means. If this Bill were not passed before April 1st, there might be confusion concerning the area of jurisdiction of these officials. We shall circulate the Bill immediately and if the Seanad agrees, I shall return at 7 o'clock.

The Bill will be circulated and the House will take it up at 7 o'clock.

Agreed.
