Seanad Éireann debate -
Wednesday, 30 Nov 1955

Vol. 45 No. 9

Adjournment of Seanad.

It is proposed to adjourn the House to 14th December, 1955.

An Leas-Chathaoirleach

The motions are not being taken?

I should like to submit that I am in a position to go on with this particular motion. I understand that the proposer, Senator Crowley, has asked to have this motion postponed, but I should like to ask the House to consider that, where the proposer of a motion is present in the House and is prepared to go ahead with it, but is precluded by reason of the fact that the Minister is not available, the motion should take precedence over any other motion on the Order Paper.

I am quite prepared to put Senator Cogan's representations to the Leader of the House.

I should like to submit also that the motion in regard to wheat prices is of considerable urgency. I think it would be most important to have it dealt with before the Dáil adjourns for the Christmas recess. If it cannot be taken owing to the pressure of legislative business, I should submit that the Seanad ought to meet on the following day in order to dispose of it.

An Leas-Chathaoirleach

These matters will be considered.

It is intended, if possible, to clear the Order Paper when we meet on 14th December and, if necessary, to go on on the 15th December. Is that what the Senator wants?

Yes.

The Seanad adjourned at 9.20 p.m. until 3 p.m. Wednesday, 14th December, 1955.
