Seanad Éireann debate -
Wednesday, 2 Dec 1959

Vol. 51 No. 14

Transport Act, 1950 (Additional Powers) Order, 1959: Motion of Confirmation.

I move:

That Seanad Éireann hereby confirms the Transport Act, 1950 (Additional Powers) Order, 1959.

The Transport Act, 1950 (Additional Powers) Order, 1955 will not come into operation until it has been confirmed by Resolution of each House of the Oireachtas.

The purpose of the Order is to enable C.I.E. to operate railway lines on the North Quays, Cork, the reconstruction of which was recently carried out under the authority of a Harbour Works Order. That Order provided for the construction of the railway lines on the reconstructed quays to connect with existing C.I.E. lines in the vicinity. The power to operate these railways could not, however, have appropriately been conferred on C.I.E. under the authority of the Harbour Works Order and it is necessary, therefore, to confer these powers on C.I.E. by means of the present Order.

Question put and agreed to.
The Seanad adjournedsine die at 11.15 p.m.
