Vol. 53 No. 3

Oireachtas Members' Pension Scheme: Motion.

Tairgim:

Go ndéanfar, faoi réir chomhthoiliú na Dála, Coiste an tSeanaid um Nós Imeachta agus Pribhléidí a chónascadh le Coiste na Dála um Nós Imeachta agus, Pribhléidí chun breithniú a dhéanamh i dtaobh scéim pinsean ranníocach do chomhaltaí den Oireachtas faoi alt 6A d'Acht an Oireachtais (Liúntais do Chomhaltaí), 1938 (alt a cuireadh isteach le halt 5 den Acht um an Oireachtas (Liúntais do Chomhaltaí) agus Oifigí Aireachta agus Parlaiminte (Leasú), 1960) agus, más cuí leis an gComhchoiste é, faoi réir an choinníll nach gcuirfear aon mhuirear ar chistí poiblí dá chionn sin, scéim dá samhail a dhéanamh.

I move:

That, subject to the concurrence of the Dáil, the Committee on Procedure and Privileges of the Seanad be joined with the Committee on Procedure and Privileges of the Dáil to consider the matter of a scheme for contributory pensions for members of the Oireachtas under section 6A of the Oireachtas (Allowances to Members) Act, 1938 (inserted by section 5 of the Oireachtas (Allowances to Members) and Ministerial and Parliamentary Offices (Amendment) Act, 1960) and, if the Joint Committee so thinks fit, subject to the proviso that no charge on public funds may be imposed thereby, to make such a scheme.

As members are aware, the question of a scheme of pensions for members has been under consideration by the Committee on Procedure and Privileges of both Houses for some time and a tentative scheme has been prepared. This motion is necessary to meet the statutory requirements. Members will note that the terms of reference provide that no charge may be imposed on public funds.

Question put and agreed to.
Ordered: That a message be sent to the Dáil accordingly.
