Vol. 56 No. 15

Death of Senator: Expression of Sympathy.

It is with feelings of profound regret that I have to announce, within such a short time, the death of another of our colleagues, Senator Daniel J. Moloney. His passing came as a shock to all of us and was most unexpected as on the day prior to his demise he appeared to be his usual self. Go ndéana Dia trócaire ar a anam.

The late Senator first came into prominence as a public representative when he was elected as a member of Dáil Éireann in 1957. He continued to be a member of that House until 1961 when he was elected a member of Seanad Éireann from the Oireachtas Sub-Panel of the Industrial and Commercial Panel. He was also keenly interested in local affairs and a member of the Kerry County Council, Listowel Urban Council and the County Vocational Education Committee. He also took an active part in all activities connected with the advancement of our native language and culture.

An indefatigable worker and a forceful and vigorous speaker, he was most zealous in his parliamentary duties both as a Deputy and as a Senator. His work as a public representative in his native Kerry cannot be exaggerated as he devoted much of his time and energy to the interests of the people of that area. Of a kindly and humorous disposition his passing will be mourned by the members of both Houses.

To the widow and relatives of the late Senator, I shall convey on your behalf, and on my own, our sympathy and appreciation.

Senators rose in their places.
