Seanad Éireann debate -
Wednesday, 13 May 1964

Vol. 57 No. 11

Report of Joint Committee on Standing Orders (Private Business). - Business of Seanad.

We are in a bit of difficulty in regard to No. 10. The Minister is engaged and, anyhow, feels that the debate on this motion will be the same as on the Pensions Bill which has now been passed by the Dáil and which will be before the Seanad at its next sitting. Would it be possible to vary the order and adjourn discussion on the motion until the Pensions Bill is before us? The two can be taken in conjunction.

I have no objection provided I am in a position to move the motion as it stands when the Bill is before the House. The motion enshrines a principle in which many people are interested—the principle of keeping pensions in step with increased salaries. If I am granted that privilege, I have no objection to adjourning consideration of the motion.

It should be possible to debate this motion on the Second Stage of the Pensions Bill.

An Leas-Chathaoirleach

The motion may be discussed on the Second Reading of the Bill and the motion may be put separately.

In its present form?

An Leas-Chathaoirleach

Yes.

The Seanad adjourned at 5.10 p.m., sine die.
