Vol. 60 No. 10

Business of Seanad.

No. 3, the motion in the name of Senator Sheehy Skeffington.

Before we come to No. 3, could we get an idea of how many speakers there will be on the motion and when it might be possible for Senator Sheehy Skeffington to begin his reply?

Seven or eight.

"The best laid plans of mice and men..."

Could I remind the House that Senator Ryan speaking on behalf of the Leader of the House at the end of business last week said that it was proposed to sit this week to take the Diseases of Animals Bill and this motion, and if business were not completed on Wednesday, it was proposed to sit on Thursday.

I appreciate Senator Sheehy Skeffington's attention to the Seanad Report but he knows as well as I do that the constant complaint amongst Senators has been that we cannot get down to motions, once Bills come in. My anxiety was to try to get as many motions finished as possible before Dáil Bills start to reach us. This does not look as if we will.

We could finish it tomorrow.

That would be no good.
