Vol. 66 No. 9

Fourth Report of Select Committee on Statutory Instruments.

I move:

That the Report be laid before the Seanad and that the Report, Proceedings, Minutes of Evidence and Appendices be printed.

I also take this opportunity of drawing the attention of the Seanad to the fact that this is the Fourth Report of this Committee and this, I understand, is a record for any Statutory Committee. It might be of interest to know that the Committee have considered during their lifetime 803 Statutory instruments of which they have drawn the attention of the Seanad to 49. That reflects the importance of having a Statutory Committee. The Committee considered a high proportion of delegated legislation which was of a type to which the Committee felt the attention of the Seanad should be drawn. When this Report is circulated, I should hope to ask the Seanad to take note of it. It contains two items which, I think, the Seanad will find interesting in relation to future legislation. I hope, therefore, to be given time to draw the attention of the Seanad to the Report as soon as it is circulated.

The Seanad notes with approval that productivity is high at least in the Statutory Instruments Committee but not in the Dáil.

Question put and agreed to.
