Vol. 66 No. 12

Shipping Investment Grants Bill, 1968 (Certified Money Bill) Report and Final Stages.

I move the following recommendation:

That in section 2, in line 26, after the word "business" to insert the words "or purchasing".

This is the point I made earlier.

I think we have dealt with that point. I am satisfied that the wording is adequate for the purpose. I do not think we need to argue it any further. If there is any argument to be made I think it is that the word "providing" was used because it does not cover only the building of a ship but also it covers the conversion and furnishing of a ship. The word "providing" seems to be the simplest word to cover all these various operations.

I would only remark that the Minister is incorrect regarding "converting". If he look at the subsection he will see that the wording is "approved capital expenditure incurred in providing, for use for the purposes of that business, a new ship or... in converting a ship for such use". Converting is separately provided for and is not included under "providing".

There is equipping too—there is the equipment of a ship and the replacement of machinery.

Recommendation put and declared lost.
Question: "That the Bill be received for Final Consideration" put and agreed to.
Question: "That the Bill be returned to the Dáil" put and agreed to.
The Seanad adjourned at 7.38 p.m. until 3 p.m. on Wednesday, 21st May, 1969.
