Seanad Éireann debate -
Wednesday, 10 Dec 1969

Vol. 67 No. 6

Business of Seanad.

Miss Bourke

If I might trespass on the time of the Seanad, I should like to ask the Leader of the House if he could indicate when some of the motions before the House will be debated. I speak in particular of motions Nos. 4, 5, 8 and 9 which refer to very important reports that have recently come before the country. When I saw them on the Order Paper originally I rather naively thought they would be debated very soon. I was pleased because it has been my experience, even though I am a newcomer here, that the standard of debate in this House is very high and the viewpoints expressed are worth having. The Devlin Report, the Buchanan Report and the Report of the Higher Education Authority——

An Leas-Chathaoirleach

The Senator is going rather further than asking a question, even though she is flattering the House.

Miss Bourke

The point I am trying to make is that here we have an opportunity for a very full discussion and I should like to know when this will take place. If we had time to spare we could use it by doing this.

I am very happy to assure the Senator that it will not take place before Christmas.

Before Easter?

Before Christmas next year?

Would the Leader of the House be more forthcoming and give us some definite programme for the next term? It has been most frustrating this term.

The acoustics are very bad and I did not hear the piper from Cork that time.

An Leas-Chathaoirleach

The business ordered for today has been disposed of and we must now adjourn the House.

The Seanad adjourned at 9.5 p.m. until 3 p.m. on Wednesday, 17th December, 1969.
