Vol. 70 No. 15

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take Nos. 1, 2 and 3 on the Order Paper.

Can the Leader of the House indicate when No. 4 will be taken.

Is it proposed to sit tomorrow?

It is hoped to finish the business I have announced this evening, therefore we will not have to sit tomorrow.

Does the Leader of the House envisage the House should continue sitting today to finish the business by 5 o'clock?

I am optimistic enough to believe that we will finish by 5 o'clock.

Nos. 2 and 3 have not been with us for the full three days required by Standing Orders. Would the Leader of the House wish to move a motion that they be taken at short notice?

I move:

That Nos. 2 and 3 on the Order Paper be taken today.

We would normlly be reluctant to take Bills at short notice. The Leader of the House would agree that it is a bad practice and would be a bad habit if it became a habit. However, in the present circumstances, with the number of weighty Bills still in the other House, we would be agreeable to take these Bills today rather than have to fit them in in next week with the other business.

Question put and agreed to.

The Order of Business proposed is Nos. 1, 2 and 3 and the Seanad have agreed to take Nos. 2 and 3 at less than the three days notice required.
