Vol. 71 No. 5

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take one item only, that is, No. 1, and to remain in session for so long as is necessary to complete that item.

Does the Leader of the House mean that he intends taking all Stages?

We will see how far we get with this one.

When he says to complete it, is he referring to the Committee Stage only?

The whole Bill, if the House agrees.

It obviously will not agree to that. I want to be clear as to whether or not the Leader of the House is, in effect, moving a guillotine motion on the Order of Business.

There is no guillotine. I am suggesting that when we finish Committee Stage it is time to discuss the remainder.

The Leader of the House has moved a motion that we take item No. 1 only and sit as long as may be necessary to finish it. I want to be clear that that refers only to Committee Stage.

What is on the Order Paper is Committee Stage.

Would it be in order if I were to ask the Leader of the House whether he could tell us now, if we do finish Committee Stage today, will we be allowed at least until, say, Wednesday of next week for Report Stage?

The Chair would suggest that matter be raised at the conclusion of Committee Stage when it is a matter of fixing the next Stage. The House would then have to fix a date for the next Stage. The proposition is that one item only be taken, that is, No. 1, and that the House continue sitting until Committee Stage is finished.
