Vol. 75 No. 9

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take Nos. 1, 2 and 3 on the Order Paper.

I hope that, seeing our attempt to have Motion No. 10 on the Order Paper taken before the Recess was unsuccessful last week, the Government will make every effort to have this motion taken at the earliest possible opportunity in the autumn. Attempts were made to have this motion discussed last week. It is of paramount importance that we have a debate on this motion and I trust the Government will make every effort to deal with it as soon as possible in the autumn.

I should like to support the remarks made by Senator West. The continuous postponement of a debate on this motion would probably create a bad impression. The views we could put forward on the matter would probably be just as divided as the views that exist in the North. I think this would be a good time to make our views known.

I can certainly say to Senator West that I will do what I can to have this debate as early as possible after the Recess. The only argument I have heard against having the debate was that of Senator Martin. I would hope that this House would not find itself so divided in relation to its attitude on this motion.

Order of Business agreed to.
