Vol. 78 No. 14

Royal Hospital for Incurables, Dublin (Charter Amendment) Order, 1974: Motion:

I move:

That Seanad Éireann approves the following Order in draft:—

Royal Hospital for Incurables, Dublin (Charter Amendment) Order, 1974,

a copy of which Order in draft form was laid before Seanad Éireann on 5th July, 1974.

As explained in the explanatory memorandum which accompanied the draft order circulated to Senators, the Management Committee of the Royal Hospital for Incurables, Dublin, applied for an order to be made substituting the Royal Hospital, Donnybrook as the name of the hospital instead of the Royal Hospital for Incurables, Dublin. This hospital is more than 200 years in existence and discharges well an important function in the health field. It caters for 244 patients at any one time.

I would like to pay a tribute to all associated with the hospital for their compassionate and charitable endeavours. The change which basically omits the word "incurables" from the title is one which I think needs no public justification other than to mention it.

The draft order which is now before the House will provide for the legal change in the name of the hospital and, accordingly, I would ask the House for approval.

Question put and agreed to.
