Seanad Éireann debate -
Tuesday, 17 Dec 1974

Vol. 79 No. 3

Order of Business.

I propose that business should be taken in the following order: Nos. 1, 2, 7 and 3. With regard to No. 3—the resumed Second Stage of the Illegitimate Children (Maintenance and Succession) Bill, 1974—the position, as I have already mentioned to Senator Robinson and Senator Lenihan, is that unfortunately the Minister for Justice will not be available today. We would like to continue the discussion, if we have the number of speakers here, of holding it open for the Minister to come in some other day.

I should like to confirm that I was informed beforehand that the Minister is not able to be present. Nevertheless I would welcome an opportunity for the Seanad to continue the debate and then hold the matter over for the Minister to participate on another date. I should also like to move an amendment to the Order of Business, to take No. 14 —Family Planning Bill, 1974: First Stage—before the other items.

I second that.

To the original proposal there is an amendment: "That No. 14 be inserted before No. 1." Does any other Senator wish to contribute before I call the Leader of the House to reply?

I merely want to say that, as far as I am concerned in regard to No. 14, it is a question for the House. If the House think that it should go into the Order of Business, naturally I am quite happy to accept that decision.

Accordingly, I now put the question:

That item No. 14 be inserted before item No. 1 in the Order of Business as proposed.

Question put and agreed to.

The main question is:

That the Order of Business be Nos. 14, 1, 2, 7 and 3.

Question put and agreed to.
